This is not about any of that technophobia nonesense of the pre-digital age. Like nano-robots will reverse aging and make us immortal and stop the need for human reproduction.

This is about a bill of goods being sold to western countries that renewables are some sort of deep well of wealth in the face of the economic distress engulfing the world right now.

Going green is not turning out to be the economic future promised, while we watch the installed base of renewables grow steadily there has been almost no economic impact at all. Instead there has been taxes, levies and public commissions on placement, form, use and insect habitat.

I am not for artificial jobs either, that is why I did not believe the green claims of economic windfalls as a result of wind power.

I mentioned this before on this site, green jobs are not sustainable. It is like the tech demand bubble of the dot.com fiasco, there will be short term work followed by a whole lot of people scrambling for a very few jobs.

Didn’t we hear the same arguments about computers, robots in car plants, the internet, etc etc – “They will take our jobs!!”

In general I am against protectionism – if things can be made more cheaply in China then we need to start by questioning the efficiency and focus of our own economy first and foremost. The US auto industry is a great example of the long term ills of protecting uncompetitive home manufacturing instead of subjecting them to competition.

I’m also against schemes which aim to keep people in work artificially, especially when newer and better technology is available. The low maintenance requirement and low operational manpower intensity of wind-turbines makes them even more ideal in my eyes.

The green economy will be built by more than just a few windmills.
