<i>"Exactly what is natural about a sprawling city/suburb with millions of people and hundreds of thousands of cars in it? The two or three parks? The thin strips of trees left on hills too steep to turn into condos?"</i>

What is natural about stopping forest fires started by lighting strikes?

What is natural about creating artificial reefs from old tires?

What is natural about introducing predatory species into regions to control protected wildlife populations?

All these things are done by "environmentalists" that say they know better than nature.

We are part of our environment, we have used our ingenuity and adaptability to become the most successful species on the planet and yet we are still helpless in the face of the environment and all it's fury.

We cannot control climate and bend it to our will, either indirectly or by design, try and understand this simple fact "the climate is going to change, no matter what we do, you cannot change humanity with what you call mitigation measures and think you will get to pick the results, you do not get to choose the climate you want"

Humanity is here to stay, sorry to burst your eugenicist created environmental bubble ( read up on the history of environmentalism and its founders and you will see where your ideology really comes from, plus take a look at some other popular movements of the last 100 years as well, especially leading up to WWII ).

Even though your "green" policies have managed to create a food crisis and will surely kill hundreds of thousands this year (your eugencist founders would be so proud), we are not going anywhere.

(Those "changes in the past" happened much slower. These changes are fast and Just Happen to coincide with one species controlling/trashing/burning a lot of the planet and starting a mass-extinction.
Repeating the same "past changes" argument proves nothing anymore except that you can't imagine or conceive of the tons of trash that this one species is pumping into the air every hour.
Exactly what is natural about a sprawling city/suburb with millions of people and hundreds of thousands of cars in it? The two or three parks? The thin strips of trees left on hills too steep to turn into condos?

Yeah, keep on saying the discussion is pointless. The majority of scientists in the world DO know what's happening, the only question is if humans can make big enough changes in time to slow down what we're doing.

"I have decided to not bother with the complete skeptics, the 10 to 30% who have decided to close their ears to the scientific evidence. The rest, I can, want to work with"

I have never ever seen a skeptic make a remark so dismissive as this one, this is the state of debate?

The deaths of dissent and debate will cause the decline of human civilization long before global warming.

Thanks Mark, this is a great piece.

There are different levels of skepticism. The one I am most interested in is the 'buy into global warming, but not willing to take action'. I have decided to not bother with the complete skeptics, the 10 to 30% who have decided to close their ears to the scientific evidence. The rest, I can, want to work with.

Nadine

It is not resistence to change, human society has always been changing. It is MANDATED change based on bad scince and no answers that I object to.

The more I research this the more I realize that the renewables options on the table are not good ones. We are smarter than this. We will find solutions but not under the muzzle of the environmental gun of global catastrophe, that makes you rush and cut corners and make bad decisions.

As far as lifestyle, I do not tell anyone how to live, all I ask is the same amount of respect.

My lifestyle is completely different from my parents, and their's was from their parents, my children will be different again, but they will choose how.

I want my children to grow up with choice, not into a society of social planning and regulated consumption.

I do not want the Environmetal thought police stopping everything that they do not think we should do based on a blanket cause that cannot be disproved or proved no matter what happens over the next century.

A blanket so vast that anything and everything can be found to be bad for the planet in some way. There is a line in the sand here, we are getting dangerously close to crossing.

AGW supporters need to be aware they are not the majority of the population, nor are the deniers, there is about 80% in the middle who will react when things go too far. We are seeing it already with food riots popping up.

All based on a .5C temperature increase used when this whole thing got rolling. Here we are almost 20 years later and we still have that same argument over that same .5C.

There is also a list at Skeptical Science
http://www.skepticalscience.com/argument.php
List is in order of popularity with links to the science debunking the skeptics.

"has the conversation dwindled into a scripted dialogue complete with false anger and degrading remarks?"

Sadly, yes it has..

We will be back tomorrow with some more thought provoking material from the Blue team..

I love the picture, the red team is some old corporate geezer... just remember Happy Gilmore.

I do not know how to win but I can call the fight...

The Green throws a lifestyle right hook, a red block followed by a fact based counter - punch, BOOM BABY, right on the button!

The green yells "DENIER!" covers his ears and runs away.

End of fight.

Ok that was an attempt at comedy.

Really do we need a handbook, has the conversation dwindled into a scripted dialogue complete with false anger and degrading remarks?

It is scary both sides use a how to... list to convince each other. Like a lithany. Handy to have a handbook "How to kill dialogue". Matter of fact is no one knows for sure. No one has the absolute proof. If we all say fossile fuel is scarce and we must not waste it, that is something we all could understand. Let us not single out CO2 being the malefactor. Climate changes are very complex and lots of factors influence it. There have been changes in the past when we were not even there. Let the scientists do their work and let us not silence each other with these lists.
