What about the AGW proponents who are outside THEIR area of expertise? Is a biologist really qualified to tell us that human activity is changing the climate? That sword cuts both ways, Kiashu.

Too many stories about climate change focus on the possible consequence if something is not done immediately. This just glosses over the fact that we don't know what is causing climate change and perhaps any actions we take may make things worse.

It is called sarcasm Kiashu, it is possible to make humour part of the discussion. Try and crack your mind open a little.

The point of the post is that no matter what side you are on you can see a conspiracy theory.

Apparently you missed it.

Kiashu:

If you want to argue, it is best to do it in a civilized manner using words that you would comfortably use in any surroundings. You never know who is going to be reading your comments - perhaps some high school or even middle school students interested in learning more about an extremely important issue for their future.

I am no denier - I am fully aware of the fact that carbon dioxide levels have increased since the Industrial Age began. However, I am also fully aware of the fact that the Earth's climate has been in a constant state of change throughout its 4 billion year existence.

A carbon tax would benefit me personally - I have a lot of my investment portfolio and a future career tied to an expanding nuclear power industry. However, I get really skeptical when anyone with a political science degree tells me that it is time to stop questioning the science. The mantra of a true scientist is to keep questioning, probing and trying to understand.

There is a ton of money being made by folks that are attempting to prosper because of the heightened awareness of carbon dioxide emissions. That money is finding its way into the coffers of companies like GE, Siemens, BP, FPL, and many other very large and prosperous companies. It is right to question whether or not the money is being spent in ways that will actually make a difference or in ways that will simply make some people feel good and other people richer.

If you want to argue against someone, best thing to do is mention what they've actually argued, not some damn nonsense you've made up yourself. Who the fuck ever said if some scientist has a gas card they can't be trusted on climate change? Quit making stuff up.

The denialists to be suspicious of are the ones whose area of specialty is outside the area they're denying, and who have a history of doing such denial in a range of areas. Old <a href="http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=S._Fred_Singer" rel="nofollow">Fred Singer</a>'s a classic example. The guy's done tobacco, climate change, everything.

Is this the level of argument Red Team's going to offer us? I meet drunk guys down at the pub who have better arguments than that.
