Finally, a small ray of hope in the upcoming catastrophic future.

People, we are ingenious survivors!
Yes there are more of us living now than before, and nobody will ever willingly give up what they have for the sake of the other. But we are cunning and resourceful. This planet will always need to provide us with more and more energy, food and water. It is up to us to make it happen!

Lets end the compaining! OOOooo the glaciers might melt! OOOoo the sea level might rise!

Wake Up! It will happen. Guaranteed! Now what are you going to do about it?
We can get passed this because we have big brains

Fortunately in the end, we are also completely amoral. This is a great advantage. The real challenge for our us, organized in tribes and nations, is to survive the merciless climate changes that approach us.

Historically this is by competition, not co-operation. Problems coming from climate change will be addressed no differently. Only the fit will survive.

Every nation needs to take care of its own. It would now be political suicide for national leaders to give up jobs for carbon reductions in what is about to be the worse global recession the world has seen in 50 years. They won't do it. By the time the recession has run its course tipping points in the atmosphere and oceans will be passed without adequate changes to avoid significant future global heating.

Our national leaders duty is to start now to secure domestic energy, food, and water needs for a future hot climate. The full scope of economic, political and military force will be needed by each nation in this upcoming struggle.

It is also the duty of individuals to make themselves aware of the coming dangers and take appropriate steps to avoid or minimize those effects. There is enough evidence now for future sea level rise and temperature increases, that only a fool would own a home in a low lying area or plant food in 30N to 30S, or expect a government to compensate him when it is inundated or scorched. Disease vectors are changing and it is unrealistic to expect to remain healthy in areas that will be subject to approaching diseases.

The Military, Immigration and Border Controls of all nations need to be strengthened to repulse people unwise enough not to have relocated in time and defend those wise, rich or lucky enough to have secured the necessary resources for survival. Police and Emergency services also need to be strengthened to keep order and provide a few ameliorative measures during catastrophic events.

The key to survival has always to be informed, flexible, mobile and lucky. Fortunately for the rich and informed (if you're reading this, you're one of those) there is a good chance you will take steps to adapt by assessing the risks facing you, your tribe and your nation, and take appropriate steps. You may expect your national leaders to take steps to adapt on your behalf. In some nations this may be a mistake, as leaders have been purchased by economically powerful families or lobbies that limit necessary changes for that nation as a whole. In those nations individuals really are on their own, and need to assume the government will not be there to help during the changes. They should take steps accordingly.

The call for a stronger military, and doing whatever is necessary to secure resources is selfish. So what? Do you want to survive, or die?

Holding nation states together through coming periods of upheaval may be the best hope for humanity's long term survival.

Remember, stay informed, flexible and mobile. Only time will tell if you and your progeny are going to be lucky.
