EU threatens discussion boycott, Pope joins the debate
Just as we were getting bored of talking about Bali the European Union has added some additional drama, threatening to boycott further talks if the United States continues to”block progress”. The EU claims that  attending the next exotic climate meeting in Hawaii next month would be pointless if the US continues to reject the current scientific evidence.
“That’s the last time I go on holiday with them again” a senior EU official unfortunately wasn’t quoted as saying.
As the world’s biggest emitter of Co2 the US has been widely accused of obstruction due to its determination to remove clauses from the Bali agreement calling for set emissions targets. The US meanwhile claims that there are too many uncertainties within the science, but doesn’t go so far as to reject the scientific evidence outright.
With a growing body of counter global warming evidence being presented we are curious to see if the US approach is a pure stalling tactic, or if they may eventually renounce currently accepted evidence for climate change. Perhaps this kind of debate is what may be required for the scientific community to come out with a true consensus and kill the suspense for those of us in the middle ground?
Meanwhile in the news, Pope Benedict XVI has entered the fray with a message to world leaders warning them that “any solutions to global warming must be based on firm evidence and not on dubious ideology.”
Who said he doesn’t have a sense of humour?

I’m liking this pope more and more.
