What we believe
What is our overall position on the topic? Are we red or are we green? We’ve had a couple of emails asking this question in the last week, so we have set out some answers below.
We believe:
- That in today’s political mass media age, some cynicism pays off.
- That scientists who predict climate change should be taken seriously. And that scientists who don’t predict climate change should be taken seriously as well. The fact there is no single unified theory, so there are no single unified answers.
- That the risks are such that we  should be concerned about the potential impacts of climate change, even if we are not 100% sure it exists.
- That we should be thinking equally about how to stop climate change and about to live with the consequences.
- That most climate change mitigation ideas are generally good ideas, no matter what.
- That being green isn’t an impediment to progress.
- That ignoring the potential impacts of climate change is to take a huge gamble with our planet.
- That with smart decisions we can make climate change mitigation almost cost neutral.
- That there are certain harsh economic realities about our civilisation, and we cannot afford to ignore them. But we can be creative with them.
- That it is not somebody else’s problem.
- That there are some difficult issues to discuss, such as population.
- That the topic of climate change is a big deal, and is here to stay.
What do you believe?
